ads and fads devalue the icons they borrow

I've noticed two ad trends in the last couple years that disturb more more than usual. Have you noticed the rise in advertisments that mock human rights (or claim to be green to make green) or comodify the love movement? Here are some of many examples: "Make a Statement!"--by buying clothes? I didn't know whering North Face was a political statement. "Power to the Player". Are you fucking kidding me? Those are two of many. When did our ever dwindling rights become catchphrases used to con us in to buying a product that doesn't make us "get free?' Buying products to empower ourselves will likely be the saddest trend we'll be taking in the '10s.

The other thing that really bugs me is this hippie trend. It doesn't bother me that people are walking around with peace signs and LOVE on their Abecrombie, what bugs me is that its just a piece of fasion in the first place. They don't know or care about or neccesarily even know or support love by whereing it they are simply doing it because its in. What happens when LOVE is out? Love is devalued by becoming a fasion fad and I'm worried about what will happen to true peace and love in this world when they go the way of the Juggalo.
